It&#8217;s tough to come up with a low-waste recipe to manage a whole pound of ground beef, so I&#8217;ve devised a basic chili recipe that uses a half pound of meat. The other half goes into the freezer for another pot of chili, or one of the other recipes we&#8217;ve developed\/stolen\/stumbled upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s dead easy to make this chili, primarily because I&#8217;m very lazy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingredients:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1\/2# (225g) ground beef, 85 or 90%<br>2 T dried onion flakes<br>2 T cumin<br>2 T chili powder<br>salt<br>pepper<br>large can of tomatoes (diced, whole, crushed, whatever)<br>1 can of kidney beans (light, dark, pink, whatever)<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The onion flakes can be swapped out for fresh onion, but I&#8217;m lazy. <br>A chopped red or green pepper will add a bit more flavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brown the beef in a saucepan. Add the onion, chili powder and cumin. Add the tomatoes. If whole, break them up a bit.<br>Drain the beans, and add to the pan.<br><br>Let this simmer for a half hour or so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Serve with a bit of cheddar cheese and some Saltine crackers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are only two of us in the house besides the cat.
